Wonder Woman Costume

Wonder Woman was originally fashioned by William Moulton Marston and first starred in the eighth All Star Comic in December 1941. The Wonder Woman Costume is distinctive and remains a popular choice for women when attending functions that require fancy dress.

The Amazons of Greek Mythology were what influenced William Moulton Marston when he created her and more specifically she is titled as a warrior princess. Her mission was to convey to the Amazons the ideals of sexual equality, love and peace. Their world is depicted as one torn by the loathing of man. Known as Diana of Themyscira in her homeland, she has powers which include super agility, stamina, speed and strength and the ability of flight. The accessories she carries on her person help her in respect of her missions.

The Lasso of Truth, when placed around a person body, does not allow them to lie and she has unbreakable bracelets and a tiara which are used mainly as projectiles. The modern day Wonder Woman Costume can be purchased or rented and usually includes these three items to add to the authenticity of the character being re-created.

The original cartoon character was drawn on her first comic cover wearing a bright red basque with gold detailing, a bright blue short flared skirt with white stars and bright red knee high boots with a white trimmed top. Her tiara is depicted in gold with a red star and her indestructible bracelets were coloured silver.

Over the years however this outfit has been shown in a number of variations to the original including hot pants or skin tight trousers in place of the skirt, blue knee length boots instead of red, gold bracelets instead of silver and has even included a cape that has been illustrated in various designs and colours.

Lynda Carter originally starred on screen as the character in a movie titled The New Original Wonder Woman. There had been a previous attempt at the film starring Cathy Lee Crosby but her character did not resemble the drawings of the superhero in the DC Comics and had no super powers.

Lynda Carter’s portrayal was more in keeping in both looks and abilities and its success led to ABC producing 13 episodes of the show during 1976 and 1977, then CBS picking it up and continuing with a further two seasons. The only differences in Lynda’s attire from that of the original are the hot pants instead of a skirt and her boots have a white line down the front from knee to toe This is the most memorable styling and is what most people will aspire to when re-creating the Wonder Woman Costume.
